An Izard County man is facing multiple charges for a bizarre incident where he went into an older woman’s home and started hugging her and holding her hand and then threatened others with a gun and hatchet. Being held in the Izard County Jail is 45-year-old Simon Keith Ducker of Pineville.
According to the probable cause affidavit from the Izard County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to a residence on Dolph Road March 27 for a report of a man threatening others with a gun and a hatchet. When the first deputy arrived, he encountered Ducker on a side-by-side with a shotgun. Ducker was detained at the point. He told the deputy he was there to plant some flowers and spend time with the home owner because she is older.
The deputy then spoke with victims whom Ducker had allegedly threatened. They said Ducker had just pulled up on his side-by-side and asked if they needed gas. They said no and went to leave and Ducker followed them. When they spoke to Ducker again, he had off the wall comments including he was going to “slit someone’s throat.” One of the victims asked Ducker to leave 9-10 times but Ducker would not and said “Maybe I should slit your throat.” He also threatened to shoot him and aimed his gun at him.
The victim drove back to the house where one of the other victims had to push Ducker off of the first victim using his gun. During the altercation, Ducker had asked for a lighter and the first victim refused, so Ducker snatched a cigarette out of the victim’s mouth.
When the deputy spoke to the female victim, she said she did not invite Ducker over to the plant flowers. She said Ducker had been outside watching the house for a long time and when she had gone outside to water a dog, he followed her back in. He began to hug her and she pushed him off of her. He started hugging her again and holding her hand. She asked him to go out in the yard and he started hugging her again. She asked if he was waiting on the other two victims and he said no.
During questioning, deputies noted the smell of alcohol on Ducker’s breath. They administered a portable breath test which showed Ducker’s blood alcohol content was .198, more than double the legal level of .08.
Ducker is facing two felony counts of aggravated assault and a felony charge of terroristic threatening along with misdemeanor charges of driving on a suspended driver’s license, public intoxication, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct. His bond is set at $50,000.
He was arrested last year on charges of simultaneous possession of drugs and a firearm, possession of a controlled substance and DWI. He was out on parole on those charges, but with his latest arrest, he parole has been revoked.
