A non profit based in Marion County proposed their ideas for bringing a new, accessible Community Center at the recent meeting of the Quorum Court.
The group, Marion County Community Services, presented a proposal Tuesday evening for a new 41,000 square foot facility that would be located near the T junction of Highway 14 and 235 just south of Yellville. Doshier says the current two story community center located at the Marion County Fairgrounds in Summit has served the community well for the years, but that a new center would bring a lot of benefits to the citizens. The 25 acres for the new site on HWY 14 was purchased a few years ago from the Yellville-Summit Public Schools and the hope is that a private and public partnership would fund the building and maintaining of the a center. Doshier says their hope is that a vote from the citizens could see the continuation of a sales tax that is soon to sunset.

Doshier said the reception following the presentation from the Quruom Court members was mixed Tuesday evening. The members are wanting more research done through committee to work out the exact details of how funding and ownership of the facility would work. The hope from the presenting group is that County Judge Jason Stumph will assign the committee soon so that details can be worked out and then the citizens receive an opportunity to vote make the proposal a reality.
