Arkansas State is expected to announce the resignation of its athletic director in the coming days. According to a report from 247 Sports, Jeff Purinton is leaving Jonesboro to accept a new job in sports media.
Purinton was hired by A-State in 2022. He had previously served as a top-level assistant at Alabama for 15 years.
Purinton has made some notable hires for the Red Wolves over the last few years, including former men’s basketball coach Bryan Hodgson, tennis coach Suja Lama and first-year baseball coach Mike Silva. He has also been in charge of the renovation of the baseball facility with turf field and a new scoreboard.
In addition, Purinton has renegotiated contract agreements for Arkansas State with multimedia rights holder LEARFIELD and Adidas and entered a partnership with Amplify to create a holistic revenue solution designed to serve Red Wolves fans.
Last year, A-State had 213 points in the Learfield Director’s Cup for its second-best finish in school history at 89th. The university also led the Sun Belt Conference in the women’s Capital One Cup standings for the second consecutive year, placing No. 46 in the country.
The Red Wolves also scored a school-record 118 points last year to place in the Bubas Cup, the Sun Belt’s all-sports standings. They claimed their best finish for a full athletics year since 2015-16 and third best this century.
