Recent testing of Briarcliff Waterworks’ drinking water showed that contaminant levels remain safely below federal and state limits, according to the system’s 2024 Annual Drinking Water Quality Report.
The report, which covers data from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2024, includes results from tests conducted on lead, copper, disinfectants and by-products of the disinfection process. All results met or were better than Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards.
Lead levels averaged 0.004 parts per million (ppm), well under the EPA action level of 0.015 ppm. Copper measured at 0.411 ppm, also below the action threshold of 1.3 ppm. Both contaminants were sampled from five locations, and no sites exceeded action levels.
Testing for chlorine, used as a disinfectant, showed an average of 0.95 ppm, within the allowable limit of 4 ppm.
By-products of drinking water disinfection, including Haloacetic Acids (HAA5) and Total Trihalomethanes (TTHM), were also measured. HAA5 levels averaged 6 parts per billion (ppb), and TTHM levels were at 28 ppbboth comfortably below the maximum contaminant level of 60 ppb and 80 ppb, respectively.
The report notes that Briarcliff Waterworks is on a reduced monitoring schedule due to consistently safe results but continues to test regularly and maintain transparency with the public.
