Arkansas has a new official state dog: the Labrador Retriever.

Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders signed a bill into law Friday designating the breed as the state’s official canine. The move celebrates the Labrador’s popularity, especially among duck hunters in the region.

According to the American Kennel Club, Labrador Retrievers – commonly called Labs – are known for being friendly, outgoing and high-spirited. The AKC consistently ranks the breed among the most popular in the country, often placing second behind the French Bulldog. No state currently recognizes the French Bulldog as an official symbol.

Arkansas designated the Northern Mockingbird as its official state bird in 1929. The state does not have an official cat.
