
The Yellville-Summit High School track teams had a successful start to the postseason as they were the host school for the 3A-2 Conference Meet in Mountain Home. The Panther teams captured both team championships on Wednesday.
On the boys’ side, Flippin finished second, Melbourne was third, Salem ended up fourth, Valley Springs took sixth place, Mountain View finished seventh, and Bergman was eighth.
Among individual results, Flippin’s Kolby Hurst won the high jump and the triple jump, fellow Bobcat Braydon Sumpter of Flippin won the 1600-meter and 3200-meter runs, Aidan Hodges of Flippin won the discus throw, Flippin’s Blayne Thompson won the 400-meter dash, Rene Rascon of Flippin won the 300-meter hurdles, Yellville-Summit’s Caleb Steward won the 110-meter hurdles and the 100-meter dash, Carey Martin of Yellville-Summit won the shot put, Salem’s Anthony Levalley won the 800-meter run, Dawson Cooper of Melbourne won the pole vault, and Mountain View’s Ladd Cook won the long jump. Flippin’s team of Rascon, Maddox Treat, Ben Kenyon and Sumpter won the 4×800-meter relay; Rascon, Colin English, Christian Wire and Thompson won the 4×400-meter relay; Flippin’s English, Broderick Warnock, Wire and Hurst won the 4×200-meter relay; and Ethan Birmingham, Dylan Gaskins, Kaiden Hollis and Caleb Leisenring of Salem won the 4×100-meter relay.
In the girls’ team standings, Melbourne ended up second, Mountain View took third place, Bergman finished fourth, Flippin was fifth, Salem ended up sixth, and Valley Springs took eighth place.
Individually, Yellville-Summit’s Fay Chism won the pole vault and the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles; Bailey Ervin of Yellville-Summit won the 100-meter, 200-meter and 400-meter dashes; Yellville-Summit’s Hannah Hayward won the triple jump; Erin Akins of Mountain View won the high jump and the 800-meter and 1600-meter runs; fellow Lady Yellowjacket Emma Akins won the 3200-meter run; Bergman’s Jacey Halitzka won the shot put and the discus; and Kyna See of Bergman won the long jump. Yellville-Summit’s team of Hayward, Khloe Gates, Chism and Ervin won the 4×400-meter relay; Avery West, Keira Keys, Kenzye Lowry and Kinsley See won the 4×200-meter relay; and Bergman’s West, Kinsley See, Keys and Kyna See won the 4×100-meter relay.
The Ozark Mountain High School teams were in Eureka Springs for the 2A-1 Conference Meet. The Lady Bears finished second, and their boys were third. Both team titles were captured by Ozark Catholic.
Ozark Mountain’s top individual performances on the girls’ side included MaHaley Gilmore taking second place in the high jump and Hannah Wheeler finishing second in the discus.
The Bears ended up with a win on the boys’ side. Donnie Flud came away with the top distance in the shot put.
