Farm families in local counties will be battling with 59 others from around the state as they seek to be named Farm Bureau Arkansas’ Farm Family of the Year.

Each year, the Farm Bureau gives this award to an outstanding farm family in order to give recognition and encouragement to the families, recognize the importance of agriculture in the community and state and to disseminate information on improved farm practices and management.

Local Farm Families include the Michael Watkins family from Boone County, the Jason and Tricia Guffey family in Fulton County, Ryan and Sabra Smith’s family out of Izard County, Searcy County’s Adam and Briana Redman, Bryan and Mary Ellen Henley representing Sharp County and in Stone County, the Tracy Verser family.

Baxter and Marion Counties did not have farm families included on the list. Jason Brown from Farm Bureau says the omissions were due to a lack of entries from these counties and noted that it is rare for all counties in Arkansas to have submissions.

Next, the families will be visited by a set of judges to determine eight District Farm Families of the Year, which will be announced June 9 with the overall Farm Family of the Year to be announced in December.
