The Mountain Home High School boys’ track team was able to successfully defend its outdoor state championship from last year. The Bombers, after also winning the indoor state meet during the winter and the cross country title, became just the second team in Arkansas history to capture the triple crown after winning the Class 5A State Meet Thursday at Vilonia as they finished 54 points ahead of Russellville. Mountain Home’s girls were in a three-way tie for 16th place as the championship was captured by El Dorado.
Individually for the Bomber boys, Eli Jones won the shot put and the discus throw, Connor King won the 800-meter and 1600-meter runs, Jackson Free won the 3200-meter run and ended up third in the 1600-meter run, Garrett Barr took second place in the 1600-meter and 3200-meter runs, and Zach Daugherty finished in a tie for second place in the pole vault, Adam Jones was fourth in the pole vault, and Gus Wilber ended up fourth in the 300-meter hurdles. The team of Levi Payne, Free, Barr and King won the 4×800-meter relay; Daugherty, Reece Lara, Ben Souder and Wilber took third place in the 4×400-meter relay; and Barrett Miller, Souder, Wilber and Daugherty finished third in the 4×200-meter relay.
On the girls’ side, Mountain Home’s best performance came in the 4×800-meter relay as the team of Bailey Ritenburg, Erin Smith, Jamie Chandler and Cisily Goettler was third. Lucy Koehn ended up fifth in the 3200-meter run.
