A Searcy County man has been arrested for the abuse of his 8-month-old son because he was upset with his stepmother. Twenty-year-old Alexander Michael Perez of Pindall is facing seven counts of first degree battery which is a class Y felony, the most serious crime in Arkansas not punishable by the death penalty.

According to Searcy County Sheriff Kenny Cassell, the investigation was conducted by deputies from his office and the Arkansas State Police after they were notified Feb. 21 of the alleged abuse. The baby had been taken to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock with multiple fractures and bruises, including one acute fracture and six, possibly seven fractures in various stages of healing.

Cassell says due to the stages of healing, it’s possible there were two and possible three separate incidents. In addition to the fractures, the baby had a bruise on the left side of his chin and a broken blood vessel in his left eye.

During questioning, Perez admitted to causing all of the injuries to the child because he was mad at his stepmother and took it out on the baby.

Perez is being held in the Searcy County Jail with bond set at $75,000.
