The North Central Board of Realtors will host its annual Special Olympics Fishing Derby this Saturday at McCabe Park in Mountain Home, offering a day of free fishing for individuals with special needs.

The event is open to all handicapped children and adults, with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. and fishing starting at 9 a.m. The Arkansas Game and Fish will stock extra fish for anglers to catch and release from the main pond. McCabe park’s ponds have seen upgrades over the last year with a paved path and pavilion making fishing accessible for all in attendence.

The derby is part of the Realtors’ ongoing community outreach and support for Special Olympics athletes in the region. Alex Stubenfoll, a local realtor who, with the help of Mariah Grammer and Candice Sosnowy, has work to coordinate the event over the past five years. He says all the volunteers take a hands on approach to making the day fun for the kids and adults in attendence.
