Arkansas State Police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred Saturday at Mercy Hospital in Berryville after a detained man reportedly seized a deputy’s firearm and opened fire inside the facility.
According to authorities, 25-year-old William Kevin Rose of Little Rock had been arrested earlier by Eureka Springs police on charges of aggravated assault and resisting arrest. He was taken to Mercy Hospital for medical evaluation following his arrest.
While in the hospital, Rose allegedly gained control of a service weapon belonging to a Carroll County Sheriff’s deputy and fired two shots. No injuries were reported. Medical staff were able to subdue and disarm Rose before he fled the facility and escaped into nearby woods.
A coordinated search involving Carroll County deputies and Berryville police led to Rose’s recapture. He was later booked into the Carroll County Detention Center.
Rose now faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault on a correctional employee, theft, fleeing, resisting arrest, battery, making terroristic threats, and breaking or entering.
