MHHS boys finish third, Jones wins two events with new meet records at Meet of Champions

It was a great showing by the Mountain Home High School boys’ track and field team as they finished third in the team standings and senior Eli Jones won two events, setting new meet records in both, at the annual Meet of Champions held Wednesday at Harding University in Searcy.

Jones won both the shot put and discus in record setting fashion. His throw of 62 feet and 6.5 inches three feet and 8.5 inches farther than the second place finisher and was a new personal best. In the discus, Jones threw 189 feet and one inch to easily win the event. The second place finisher was 12 feet and seven inches behind.

Mountain Home’s Zach Daugherty also won an event, taking first place in the pole vault with a jump of 16 feet and six inches.

The Bombers’ 4X800 relay team finished in second place, a few seconds behind Rogers.

Mountain Home’s 4X400 relay team was third, just over three seconds behind first place Rogers.

In the team standings, Mountain Home finished with 44 points to finish third. Bryant won the Meet of Champions with 58 points and Bentonville was second with 48.
