A Baxter County woman was arrested early Thursday morning after fleeing from a Mountain Home Police Officer at 99 miles-per-hour, crashing her vehicle and fleeing the scene with a tennis racket. Facing four charges for the incident is 33-year-old Karissa Ann-Marie Eaton of Jordan.
According to the incident report from the Mountain Home Police Department, an officer was on routine patrol on Arkansas State Highway 5 North near Butler Furniture around midnight when he observed a vehicle approaching at a high rate of speed. Using his radar, he confirmed the vehicle was traveling at 99 miles-per-hour in a 35 miles-per-hour zone.
He activated his lights and siren and turned around to pursue but lost sight of the vehicle as it passed the Casey’s store.
When the officer reached the intersection of Highway 5 and Main Street, he observed the suspect’s vehicle overturned and resting on the driver’s side in the parking lot of Arkansas Turf and Home Comfort on Main Street. The officer noted it appeared Eaton had attempted a right hand turn onto Main Street, causing the vehicle to skid where she struck a sign at the business and then overturned.
When the officer reached the vehicle, it was unoccupied. Witnesses reported seeing a female running on 1st Street wearing a white shirt, no shoes and carrying a tennis racket.
Eaton was found at 1:45 quite some distance away, near Redbud and Locust, still carrying the tennis racket, and taken into custody. She was checked by EMTs from Baxter Health and then taken to the Baxter County Detention Center.
Eaton is facing charges of fleeing, fleeing on foot, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident. Her bond is set at $5,000.
