This time last year, Courtney Day didn’t know if she would play college softball again.
One year later, Day, the Arkansas softball team’s steady utility player, delivered one of the biggest hits in program history.
Day hit a walk-off RBI single in the eighth inning to complete a 6-5 comeback victory over Oklahoma State at the NCAA Fayetteville Regional.
It was the finishing touch on Arkansas’ rally to overcome a 5-1 deficit over the final 3 innings.
“I wanted it to be me,” Day said. “I wanted to have that moment and to do it for my team. I was just looking for a pitch to hit and not trying to do too much, and just make it happen.”
The Razorbacks (42-12) advanced to Sunday’s regional championship. They will face the winner of Saturday’s nightcap between Oklahoma State (34-19) and the victor of an elimination game between Indiana and Saint Louis.
Arkansas will play at 3 p.m. Sunday and would advance to a home super regional with a victory. If the Razorbacks lose, they will play a winner-take-all game at approximately 5:30 p.m.
