One Mountain Home graduate received the surprise of a lifetime when she was reunited with her lost 1968 class ring after it was found by a local metal detector near College Street.

The finder of the ring was Lisa Coleman who in her spare time loves to get out her metal detecting equipment and search properties in the area for lost and forgotten items. Coleman, who also serves as Vice President at the Baxter County Historical Society, says at first she didn’t think much of the find but later got quite the surprise when she discovered who the owner was.

Gwen Khayat, who spent two and a half decades as the Executive Director of the Baxter County Library and has served in many community building organizations, lived in the house on College Street during her high school years which is now how home to local retailer Freckles Chic. Coleman describes her time on the metal detector as a very Zen like experience and a great way to unwind and relax. In the six years since she started detecting she has made many discoveries including a rare form of payment called script which was a coin system used in the late 1800s at mercantiles. Reuniting Gwen with her lost class ring has been a thrilling experience and Lisa is ready to head again at the next opportunity to keep hunting the buried treasure right here in the Ozarks.
