
A man was fatally shot Thursday in Randolph County, prompting a homicide investigation by state authorities.
According to the Arkansas State Police (ASP), 47-year-old Christopher Lee Borreson of Maynard called 911 reporting he had been shot. He died from his injuries while still on the call.
At the request of the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division launched an investigation into the shooting, which occurred in the 2900 block of Pitman Road.
State police arrested 30-year-old Joshua Kane Smith, also of Maynard, in connection with the incident. Smith was taken to the Randolph County Detention Center and is facing a charge of first-degree murder.
Borreson’s body will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of death.
