A minor earthquake was reported in northeastern Marion County, near where the Marion, Baxter and Ozark County lines intersect in the early morning hours Thursday morning.   The earthquake occurred at 2:48 and was recorded 4.1 miles east, southeast of Pontiac or 13.4 miles northwest of Mountain Home. The United States Geological Survey says the quake was a magnitude 2.1.

A 2.2 magnitude earthquake was reported just southwest of Gainesville this past Saturday.

Experts say normally, earthquakes below magnitude 3 are rarely felt. However, smaller quakes from magnitude 2.0 and higher can be felt by humans if the quake is shallow (few kilometers only) and if they are very close to the epicenter and not disturbed by ambient factors such as noise, wind, vibrations of engines, traffic, etc.

Anyone who felt the quake can let the Geological Survey know on their website.
