A Rosston man is in custody following a July 22 incident that involved a shooting, a high-speed pursuit, and an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement, according to the Arkansas State Police (ASP) and the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO).
Daniel Wallace, 35, has been arrested and faces multiple felony charges, including two counts of Criminal Attempt to Commit Capital Murder, two counts of Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, First-Degree Battery, two counts of Possession of a Firearm by Certain Persons, seven counts of Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm from a Vehicle, Felony Fleeing, and Second-Degree Criminal Mischief.
Authorities said the incident began around 5 p.m. on July 22 when NCSO deputies responded to a shooting at a residence on Arkansas Highway 200 in the Morris community. A 47-year-old man from Rosston was found with life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a hospital in Louisiana, where he remains hospitalized.
A BOLO (Be On the Look Out) alert was issued for Wallace, who was last seen driving a white 2012 Chevy Tahoe. Around 6 p.m., ASP Troopers located Wallace at a convenience store in Waldo. A pursuit began northbound on U.S. Highway 371, during which Wallace allegedly fired several shots at pursuing officers.
Troopers conducted a tactical vehicle intervention (TVI) that temporarily stopped Wallaces vehicle, prompting a shootout. Two ASP vehicles were disabled, but Wallace continued fleeing until Troopers returned fire near Willisville, injuring him and causing his vehicle to crash into a tree.
Wallace was taken into custody at 6:29 p.m. following a brief standoff. He was airlifted to UAMS in Little Rock for treatment and later transferred to the Nevada County Detention Center on July 24.
The investigation is ongoing.
