Arkansas will hold its annual sales tax holiday this weekend, allowing shoppers to purchase certain items tax-free in preparation for the upcoming school year.

The tax exemption begins at 12:01 on Saturday morning and ends at 11:59 Sunday night on August 3. During this time, state and local sales taxes will not be collected on specific items including clothing and footwear priced under $100 per item, clothing accessories and equipment priced under $50 per item, and school supplies, art supplies, and instructional materials regardless of price. Electronic devices commonly used by students, such as computers, tablets, printers, and calculators, are also exempt with no price limit.

All retailers in the state are required to participate in the sales tax holiday. The exemption applies to both in-store and online purchases made during the designated time period.

According to the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration, the annual event is intended to help families reduce back-to-school expenses. Additional information and a complete list of qualifying items can be found on the department’s website at www.dfa.arkansas.gov.
