Arkansas State Police investigating inmate death as suspected homicide

The Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division is investigating the suspected homicide of a Monroe County inmate who died Friday, August 8, 2025.

44-year-old Terry Craig of Clarendon, was booked into the Monroe County Detention Center at 12:30 in the afternoon on charges of possession of child sexual abuse materials and possession of a firearm by certain persons, according to state police.

Jail staff found Craig injured in his cell later that day and transported him to Baptist Health Medical Center in Stuttgart. He was pronounced dead shortly before 10 that night.

Craig’s body will be taken to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory to determine the manner and cause of death. State police said other inmates have been identified as suspects and the investigation is ongoing.
