Hall of famers, baseball legends draw fans to Hot Springs for annual baseball weekend

The Eighth Annual Hot Springs Baseball Weekend was held Friday and Saturday in the Spa City, sponsored by Visit Hot Springs. The event was held in conjunction with the Babe Ruth World Series for 14-year-olds at the newly opened Majestic Park. Special guests this weekend included Hall-of-Famers Johnny Bench of the Cincinnati Reds and theChicago Cub’s Ferguson Jenkins. Also appearing were two-time Cy Young Award winner Bret Saberhagen, 1974 N.L. M.V.P Steve Garvey, the “Mad Hungarian” Al Hrabosky, and Bill “Spaceman” Lee.

Famed Arkansas broadcaster Jay Bunyard caught up Johnny Bench Saturday who has been visiting the event for a couple of years and always loves the camaraderie of seeing his old friends.

Ferguson Jenkins also took a few minutes to visit with Bunyard and the two reflected on the pace of the game and how it has changed over the decades.

The Hot Springs Baseball Weekend event attracted hundreds of baseball fans from around Arkansas, as well as from surrounding states.
