A Tennessee man was killed when his single-engine plane crashed late Monday in a wooded area of southern Arkansas, authorities said.
The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office said it received a report around 9:30 Monday evening of a possible downed aircraft about two miles south of Bradley near Arkansas Highway 29. Bradley is in Lafayette County, near the Louisiana border.
An Arkansas State Police helicopter located the wreckage around 3:30 Tuesday morning, and troopers, sheriff’s deputies and first responders reached the crash site around 5:15.
The pilot, identified as Barry Boes, 54, of Ooltewah, Tenn., was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the sole occupant of the 2021 Lancair Super Barracuda, which had departed from Austin, Texas, and was headed to Chattanooga, Tenn., according to authorities.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the crash. Boes’ body will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory to determine the manner and cause of death.
