
The Baxter County Fair opens this week with a full slate of community events, livestock shows, carnival rides, and live music. The fair runs this week at the Baxter County Fairgrounds and surrounding venues. Highlights include Senior Citizen and Veterans Day, Kids Day, and nightly entertainment.
Tuesday, Sept. 9
Tuesday’s schedule includes exhibit entries in home economics, art, photography, baked goods and horticulture from 2 to 6. Cattle, swine, goats and lambs may arrive from 4 to 9. The carnival will be open from 5 to 9:30, with free gate admission.
Wednesday, Sept. 10
On Wednesday, commercial booths open at 5 and the carnival operates from 5 to 9:30. Swine and livestock showmanship begins at 6, followed by the horse show at 7. The Table Band will perform on stage from 6 to 9.
Thursday, Sept. 11
Thursday is Senior Citizen Day, offering free admission from 10 to 5, and Veterans Day at the Fair, with free admission for veterans from 10 in the morning to 9 at night. Commercial booths will be open from 10 in the morning to 9 at night. Poultry and rabbit judging takes place from 9:30 to noon, with Bingo Bash on the indoor stage from 10:30 to 12:30. Beans and cornbread will be served at the Cumberland Presbyterian Education Building from noon to 7. A Quilt of Valor will be presented at 1, followed by youth rabbit showmanship at 3:30. Livestock judging, including steers, beef, bottle calf, goats and sheep, begins at 6. A Fireman, Police, First Responder and EMS Veterans Appreciation Ceremony will be held at 6:30. The carnival opens from 5 to 9:30 and Joshua Michael & Dirt Road Saints will perform from 7 to 10.
Friday, Sept. 12
Friday’s events include a cattle, sheep and goat grooming contest at 9 that morning. Commercial booths will be open from 10 to 9 at night. The livestock skill-a-thon begins at 1, followed by the All-Around Showman contest. The carnival opens at 5 and runs until close. Evening entertainment will be provided by Caney Creek from 7 to 10.
Saturday, Sept. 13
Saturday is Kids Day at the fair, with activities from 10 to 2 including stick horse races, a magic show, animal prints, building a race car, cookie walks, bingo and pom-pom shooters. Commercial booths open from 10 to 9 at night and the carnival opens at noon and continues until closing. The poultry hen silent auction ends at noon. A chainsaw contest will take place at 4, followed by lawnmower races at 5 with free admission sponsored by Gregg Outdoor Power Equipment. The fair concludes with a performance by Tone Daddy’s from 7 to 9.
