The Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Sunday at an apartment complex in the 300 block of North Garnet Court.
Fayetteville Police Department officers responded around noon after reports of a gunshot. According to authorities, gunfire was directed at officers from inside the apartment as they attempted to make contact with the occupants. Officers returned fire, striking Brandon Poulter, 42, of Fayetteville. Poulter was later found deceased inside the apartment.
The body will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab to determine the cause and manner of death.
FPD will conduct an internal review of departmental policies and procedures. The Arkansas State Police CID will present its findings to the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office, which will determine whether the use of lethal force was consistent with Arkansas law.
No law enforcement personnel were injured during the incident.
