The Arkansas Division on Law Enforcement Standards and Training has launched an Online Basic Telecommunications Certification Course, offering a new way for 9-1-1 telecommunicators to complete required training.
The course provides foundational instruction in call handling, radio procedures, emergency response coordination and crisis communication. It is designed to meet state certification standards while giving telecommunicators a flexible alternative to traditional in-person training.
“This course reflects Arkansas’s ongoing commitment to supporting our telecommunicators who already serve as the lifeline of our communities,” Shannon McCuin, the state’s 9-1-1 training coordinator, said in a statement. “By removing geographic and scheduling barriers, we’re giving working telecommunicators greater access to certification, continuing education, and the recognition they deserve for the critical role they play every day.”
Officials said the program is intended to prepare new professionals for the demands of the job and reinforce the state’s commitment to public safety.
