A child was struck by a vehicle Thursday evening on Lanton Road, and the driver fled before authorities arrived, according to a press release from the West Plains Police Department (WPPD).
Officers with the WPPD responded around 6:55 to the 800 block of Lanton Road after receiving a report of a small child being hit. Upon arrival, officers learned the driver had left the scene on foot.
West Plains police and Howell County sheriff’s deputies conducted a search of the area, but the suspect was not located. Authorities have identified the individual, and the investigation remains active.
The child’s condition has not been released to protect the family’s privacy.
