Lady Bombers extinguish 8th ranked Blazers


Tuesday night was a memorable night for the Lady Bomber Volleyball program. Mountain Home welcomed the winningest volleyball program in Arkansas high school volleyball history, Valley View Blazers to The Hangar. The night began in the back gym with the 7th grade Lady Bombers defeating Valley View 2-0. The winning ways continued into the 8th grade match as Mountain Home faced some adversity as they would lose the first set 25-22. The Lady Bombers would punch back in a big way winning the 2nd set 25-6, and wrapping up the 2-1 win with a 15-7 3rd set victory. The 9th grade continued their winning ways defeating Valley View 2-0, by the scores of 25-21 and 26-24. Mountain Home’s attack was led by Dawson Harper with 8 kills. Avery Carson (14 assists) and Allison Free (7 assists) led Mountain Home’s passing attack.

Valley View would claim the JV match by the score of 25-18.

Valley View entered the night as the #8 team in Arkansas according to the rankings from Sports Illustrated. Mountain Home began the night with a bang with a 25-23 set 1 victory. Set 2 saw a back and forth affair with Mountain Home sneaking out a victory 25-23. After a locker room meeting with her team and a few choice words to the crowd from Valley View head coach Margie McGee, Valley View would catch fire and claim the next 2 sets 25-17 and 25-18 to force a deciding 5th set. In the final act Mountain Home would come out firing, scoring the first 3 points of the set. Valley View would claw back into the set, eventually tying the final stanza 9-9. Both sides would trade points until Valley View took a 13-12 lead. Mountain Home would then score the next two points, thanks to a Lorelai Green kill followed by a Daelyn Harper block. After Valley View called their final timeout Valley View would hit a ball out of play to seal the Lady Bombers upset of the Valley View Blazers 15-13, and 3 sets to 2.

An exhausted Lady Bomber Head Coach Jill Daves spoke with Dylan Connolly after the game. Daves could not have been prouder of the “otherworldly” heart her girls have shown after 2 5-set victories over the 2 of the most storied volleyball programs in Arkansas.

Daelyn Harper was a swiss army knife for Mountain Home with 9 kills, 9 blocks, 22 digs and 6 assists. Aleigh Lucas had another double-double with 14 kills and 10 blocks. Annyston Crooker also batted in 11 kills. Lauren Rauls added 30 digs, Maddie Simmons had 21 digs, and Violet Daugherty added 7 digs. The passing attack was led by Cara Jackson with 34 assists. Jackson would also chip in 22 digs.

Mountain Home will be back in action on Thursday, September 19th, as Searcy will come to town for a 5a-east conference tilt. Also on Thursday, Mountain Home’s junior high squads will play at the Junior High Hangar against Jonesboro MacArthur.
