The Eighth Judicial District-North Prosecuting Attorney has determined that the use of force by two Arkansas State Police (ASP) Troopers was justified in connection with the apprehension of Daniel Wallace, 35, of Rosston, on July 22, 2025.
The incident began shortly after 5 p.m. when the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) responded to a shooting at a residence on Arkansas Highway 200 in the Morris community. Deputies located a 47-year-old Rosston man suffering from life-threatening injuries. Wallace was identified as the suspect and fled the scene in a white 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe.
At approximately 6 p.m., Troopers located Wallace at a convenience store in Waldo. A pursuit followed northbound on U.S. Highway 371, during which Wallace fired multiple rounds at law enforcement officers. A Trooper executed a tactical vehicle intervention (TVI) in an effort to stop the pursuit. Wallace then exchanged gunfire with Troopers, disabling two ASP patrol units, before continuing to flee.
Troopers returned fire near Willisville, injuring Wallace and forcing his vehicle off the highway, where it struck a tree. Wallace was taken into custody after a brief standoff. He was airlifted to UAMS in Little Rock for medical treatment and later transferred to the Nevada County Detention Center.
Wallace was charged with two counts of Criminal Attempt to Commit Capital Murder, two counts of Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, First-Degree Battery, two counts of Possession of a Firearm by Certain Persons, seven counts of Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm from a Vehicle, Felony Fleeing, and Second-Degree Criminal Mischief.
In his letter to ASP, dated September 22, 2025, Prosecuting Attorney Ben Hale commended the actions of the Troopers, writing: “The two Troopers are heroes in every sense of the word. They and all of the officers involved in apprehending a violent criminal with no injury to themselves or the public have my sincere gratitude.”
