Extreme meteorologist and storm chaser Dr. Reed Timmer will present a Gaston Lecture Series talk on at 6 on Tuesday evening in the Ed Coulter Performing Arts Center at The Sheid. The lecture is free and open to the public; no tickets are required.

Timmer, a PhD meteorologist from the University of Oklahoma, has chased over 1,000 tornadoes and 50 hurricanes, including EF5 tornadoes and Category 5 hurricanes. He invented the Dominator storm-chasing vehicles, which are armored, sensor-equipped machines that allow him to drive directly into tornadoes and hurricanes. His notable chases include a 2009 EF4 tornado in Nebraska, recording 140 mph wind gusts, and last year’s launch of a sensor into a mile-wide EF4 tornado in Kansas, collecting high-resolution data while reaching 39,000 feet. Timmer also provides real-time storm coverage through the National Geographic Channel and the RadarOmega app. His motto, Never Stop Chasing, reflects his lifelong dedication to extreme weather research.
