ULM pulls away late to beat Arkansas State 28-16

Arkansas State struck first but couldn’t hold on in a 28-16 loss at UL Monroe on Saturday in the Sun Belt opener.

Jaylen Raynor threw for 288 yards on 29-of-46 passing for the Red Wolves (1-4, 0-1), with Chauncey Cobb hauling in eight catches for 126 yards and Corey Rucker adding 120 yards on nine receptions.

Arkansas State jumped ahead 10-0 in the first quarter after Brandon Greil returned an interception 32 yards for a touchdown and Clune Van Andel hit a 51-yard field goal. The Warhawks (3-1, 1-0) rallied with 21 unanswered points between the second and third quarters and sealed the game with a fourth-quarter touchdown after Van Andel’s third field goal cut the deficit to five.

Arkansas State returns home Oct. 4 to face Texas State.
