The Arkansas State Police are investigating a six-vehicle crash on State Highway 181, north of Highway 140, between Manila and Osceola that left two people dead and two others injured.

The crash happened Friday, October 3, around 3:30, in zero-visibility conditions caused by smoke from a nearby field burning east of the highway. Traffic had slowed when a 2018 GMC Terrain, driven by 21-year-old Mackenzie Marie Risner of Manila, struck the rear of a 2012 Kenworth semi-truck, rolling into a roadside ditch. A second vehicle, driven by 32-year-old Jan Sebastian Rabie of Brookland, also hit the back of the semi, setting off a chain reaction involving multiple vehicles.

Rabie was pronounced dead at the scene, and Risner later died at a local hospital. Two others suffered injuries.

ASP Company F is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
