The 79th Annual Turkey Trot Festival returns to Yellville this Friday and Saturday, presented by the Mid-Marion County Rotary Club. This year’s theme is “License to Gobble.”
Friday day kicks off early with the American Legion’s All-American Breakfast, served from 6 to 10 Friday morning and 6 to 9 Saturday morning at the Legion Hut. Festivities officially begin at noon with the festival’s Opening Ceremony, featuring the Presentation of Colors and the National Anthem with performances following by the Yellville-Summit and Flippin bands.
Friday’s entertainment lineup includes The Table Worship Band from 1 to 3, followed by the always popular Lip Sync Contest hosted by the Yellville-Summit FBLA at 3:30. The Cornhole Tournament begins registration at 5:30, with play starting at 6:30. Evening music features the Jerry Hopper Band from 5:30 to 7:30, followed by Ozark Thunder Band performing from 8 to 11.
Alesia Owen, chairperson of the Turkey Trot Committee, said this year’s festival will feature more craft booths than ever beforearound 100 vendors are expected to fill the Yellville square and extend up Old Main Street.
“We’ll have more craft booths than we’ve ever had this year,” Owen said. “It’s going to fill the whole square.”
Students from Yellville-Summit will be dismissed at noon Friday to attend the festival, a tradition that goes back generations.
Saturday begins with the Turkey Trot Parade at 10, with lineup starting at 8:30 a.m. near 11th Street. Following the parade, entertainment continues throughout the afternoon with The Whistling Dixie Band from 11 to 1, Turning Pointe School of Dance street performance at 1:15, and the announcement of scholarship recipients and pageant winners at 2:30.
The band Resurrection performs from 2:45 to 4:15, followed by the Pam Setser Band from 5:30 to 7:30 and Buckshot closing out the festival from 8 to 11.
The two-day event will feature live music, turkey legs, food vendors, games, and family-friendly entertainment, and stands as a homecoming for the locals who have visited the Trot every year for generations.
