Mountain Home would get on the board with a Barrett Miller rushing touchdown from 28 yards out to put the Bombers on the board 7-0. It would be over 6 minutes until the Bombers and Miller would strike again with a 74 yard touchdown to extend the Mountain Home lead to 14-0. Mountain Home would score 3 times in the final two minutes of the half. The Bombers would force a 3 and out. Then Carter Adkins would haul in a Brantlee Phillips pass. Mountain Home, on a broken play, would score a two point conversion to take a 22-0 lead with 1:53 left in the half. Mountain Home would force another punt. Following the punt Phillips and Miller would connect on a 30 yard touchdown pass to give the Bombers a 29-0 lead.
The crushing blow would come from Blake Vacco, who would cook up something special on defense, hauled in his second interception in as many weeks. This one would turn into a pick-six for Mountain Home to give the Bombers a 36-0 lead. Here’s how it sounded on Classic Hits 101.7.
Listen:
The Arkansas Activities Association Sportsmanship Rule would be invoked in the second half, resulting in a running clock. Mountain Home would put some icing on the cake with a Seth Lara pick-six of his own to finish off the 43-0 win for the Bombers who move to 5-1 on the season and 2-1 in 6A-west play. Russellville falls to 0-6 and 0-3 in 6A-west play.
The Bombers were led offensively by Barrett Miller who had 173 yards rushing on 11 carries and 2 touchdowns. Miller would also add a receiving touchdown as well. Brantlee Phillips would go 4-9 passing but 2 of those 4 passes resulted in touchdowns, one to Miller and one to Carter Adkins. Defensively both Seth Lara and Blake Vacco picked off Russellville and returned the interceptions for touchdowns.
Mountain Home will be back in action next week on the road against Siloam Springs.
