Patrick Mahomes threw for 257 yards and three touchdowns, added a rushing score, and guided the Kansas City Chiefs to a 30-17 victory over the Detroit Lions on Sunday night, snapping Detroit’s four-game winning streak and evening Kansas City’s record at 33.
The Chiefs played a nearly flawless game, no turnovers and no penalties, while Marquise “Hollywood” Brown caught two touchdown passes and Xavier Worthy hauled in another.
Detroit had its chances, with Jared Goff throwing for 203 yards and two scores, and Jameson Williams and Sam LaPorta each finding the end zone, but the Lions failed to capitalize on critical fourth-down opportunities and saw a touchdown wiped out by a penalty in the red zone.
The game ended abruptly off the field, however, when Lions safety Brian Branch refused to shake Mahomes’ hand and later struck Chiefs receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, touching off a brief altercation among players as tempers flared.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid and quarterback Mahomes declined to escalate the situation, saying they would move on from the incident.
With this win, Kansas City avoids a losing skid and sends a message that the team is still dangerous, even without its full complement of weapons on the field.
