The Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration is warning residents about a new scam text circulating across the state that falsely claims to be from the department.
The message suggests the department is attempting to deposit a refund into the recipient’s bank account, a claim officials say is fraudulent.
“The Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration will never text you seeking your bank account details,” department spokesperson Scott Hardin said. “Scammers are continually updating this text and trying new versions to steal Arkansans’ hard-earned money.”
The latest version follows similar scams reported in recent months, including texts claiming individuals owed money for a traffic ticket or toll and threatening to cancel a vehicle’s registration if payment was not made immediately.
Arkansans are urged not to click on links or share personal information in response to unsolicited messages.
More information about the department is available at dfa.arkansas.gov.
