A former Swifton police officer has been arrested following an investigation into a house fire reported earlier this year.

According to the Arkansas State Police, 30-year-old Benjamin Drake Slagley was taken into custody Monday on one count of arson. The charge stems from an August 30 fire at Slagley’s home in Swifton.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the State Police Criminal Investigation Division after Slagley, who was then serving as a Swifton police officer, called 911 to report the fire. He later resigned from his position with the department.

Special agents transported Slagley to the Jackson County Detention Center following his arrest. The investigation remains ongoing.
