After more than 20 days without measurable rainfall in Mountain Home, a strong storm system is expected to bring much needed rain and the potential for severe weather this weekend.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the threat for severe storms will increase Saturday afternoon into Saturday night across much of Arkansas. All modes of severe weather are possible, including damaging winds, large hail, and brief, spin-up type tornadoes.

Damaging winds are expected to be the greatest threat as a line of storms moves through the state. The best chance for large hail will occur between noon and 4 over western and northwestern Arkansas. NWS Meteorologist Jimmy Young shares more on the expected timing and impacts.
