Baxter County Chief Deputy Coroner Sara Fischer has announced she will seek election for the position of Baxter County Coroner following Brad Hays’ decision not to run for re-election.
Fischer moved to Baxter County in the winter of 2022 with her three children and became the county’s first full-time Chief Deputy in 2023. She brings extensive experience in emergency medical services, including years on a critical care transport team in Northern Nevada, as well as service as a firefighter and member of a national disaster response team handling wildland fires across multiple states.
In addition to her medical background, Fischer currently works with multiple law enforcement agencies in Arkansas, performing patrol and investigative duties. She says her combined experience in medicine and investigations makes her uniquely qualified for the coroner’s role.
Fischer is also a business owner, having founded Sierra Life Scan in 2019, providing professional background searches for businesses and individuals. She notes that her investigative work has been critical in locating next of kin for decedents without known family.
Active in her community, Fischer has participated in multiple outreach programs, served on boards of directors, and been heavily involved in peer support teams for EMS and law enforcement colleagues.
“My greatest passion has always been helping people,” Fischer said. “Having spent years saving lives, I now help families through some of the hardest events of their lives. I feel fortunate and humbled to serve in this role.”
Fischer credits Coroner Hays for inspiring her to run. “His years of experience are a wealth of knowledge,” she said. “Together we’ve made this office a gold standard in the state. I hope to continue that reputation while exploring new opportunities for growth, outreach, and education.”
If elected, Fischer says she plans to continue serving the community, working closely with law enforcement, helping families find closure, and being a voice for those who can no longer speak for themselves.
