A full day of pet-friendly fun is planned for Saturday, from 9 to 4 at the ASU-Mountain Home campus, all in support of local animal rescues. This second annual event is organized by Patty Markowski, Director of Lucky Dawg Rescue and Penny Oxford, Marketing Director for All Creatures Veterinary Hospital.

The day begins at 9, rain or shine with the Dog Jog and Fun Walk, offering both 2.5K and 5K routes for participants and their leashed dogs. Runners can compete with or without pets, and medals will be awarded for top finishers in each category. Same-day registration is available, though T-shirts are limited to pre-registered participants.

Starting at 10 several area shelters-including Have a Heart Pet Shelter, the Humane Society of North Central Arkansas, and local animal control-will be on-site with adoptable dogs. The adoption event continues through 2.

A crowd favorite, the dog costume contest, kicks off at noon. Categories range from spooky to silly, with prizes awarded for creativity and group themes. Registration begins at 11 and requires a $20 donation.

Other activities include a themed photo booth from 10 to 1 and a comical zombie run beginning at 1, where participants dodge volunteer “zombies” along a designated trail course.

Markowski describes the zombie run to Adam Rogers of KTLO News.
