The #9 ranked Mountain Home Bombers were back in front of the home crowd on Thursday. Mountain Home ran past Lake Hamilton 42-6 to claim their 7th win of the season.
The Bombers, coming off of 2 consecutive shutouts, looked to garner their third straight shutout. For the first time in nearly a month, Mountain Home would get on the board in the first quarter with a long opening drive capped off by a Barrett Miller 1 yard rushing touchdown to take a 7-0 lead. After the Bombers forced a 3 and out, Brantlee Phillips would have a long gain on a fake punt that would take the Bombers inside the 10 yard line. Phillips would end the drive with a 10 yard rushing touchdown to give the Bombers an early 14-0 lead.
The first play from scrimmage in the second quarter would see Miller push in for another touchdown to push the Bomber lead to 21-0. Inside the final 3 minutes of the half the Bombers would see Miller tack on a 44 yard touchdown. Mountain Home would send the Wolves to the halftime break with their tails between their legs. After a stop on 4th and goal by the Bombers, the hosts would lead at the break 28-0.
Phillips would start the 3rd quarter with a 63 yard rushing touchdown to send the game into the Arkansas Activities Association sportsmanship rule.
Lake Hamilton would find the endzone with a receiving touchdown by Tyrese Scott to cut into the lead 35-7. Immediately following that Mountain Home’s Connor Schulz, who has had multiple punt/kickoff returns for touchdowns called back for penalties, finally got one to go and ran back the Wolves kickoff 88 yards to paydirt to cap off the 42-7 lead for the Bombers.
Coach Steve Ary spoke with Dylan Connolly after the game to share his thoughts on his team outscoring its opponents 118-7 in their last 3 games, and about how his seniors have “taken the next step.”
Listen:
Mountain Home was led offensively, again, by Barrett Miller who had 16 carries for 195 yards, all in the first half. Brantlee Phillips tacked on 164 all purpose yards for the Bombers. The Bomber defense was anchored by Hunter Estes who had 4 tackles and recovered a fumble.
Mountain Home moves to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in 6A-west conference play. Mountain Home’s next game will be on the road in Van Buren on Halloween night.
