With political season heating up, residents locally and across the state are being reminded that campaign signs are not allowed on highway right of ways.
The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) says state law only permits official directional, informational, and regulatory signs on property owned by the state. All other signs, including political yard signs, will be removed by ARDOT crews.
ARDOT administrators says keeping highway right of ways clear is important for the safety of both drivers and highway workers.
Personnel will remove unauthorized signs and contact owners of larger billboard displays to arrange removal. Anyone wishing to retrieve a sign taken from the right of way can do so during normal business hours at their nearest ARDOT Area Maintenance Office, including those serving Baxter, Marion and Fulton Counties.
