Arkansas drivers might fondly remember last week’s gas prices based on the latest increases shown in AAA’s Thursday report. The statewide average for regular unleaded rose to $2.67 per gallon, up four cents from a week ago. Despite the increase, prices remain 16 cents lower than this time last year.

Central Arkansas prices are holding near the state average, with Hot Springs showing the lowest among major cities at $2.58 per gallon, followed by the Little Rock-North Little Rock metro at $2.62, and Pine Bluff at $2.67. The highest average price in the state is found in Desha County at $3.10, while Arkansas County reports the lowest average at $2.53 per gallon.

Nationally, AAA lists the average price at $3.10 per gallon. California drivers continue to pay the most at the pump, averaging $4.60, while Mississippi enjoys the lowest average at $2.61.

In a separate report, Forbes Advisor ranked Arkansas 26th in the nation for confrontational driving. The survey examined behaviors such as tailgating, rude gestures, and unsafe lane changes. The ranking places Arkansas drivers near the middle of the pack – less aggressive than those in neighboring states like Texas and Louisiana, but not among the most courteous either.

According to the American Oil & Gas Historical Society, the modern gas pump traces its roots to a kerosene dispenser invented by Sylvanus Bowser in 1885. Bowser later adapted his design in 1905 for automobiles, paving the way for today’s computer-operated pumps.
