No. 15 Missouri (6-2, 2-2 SEC) came up inches short on the game’s final play as Kevin Coleman Jr. was stopped at the goal line, sealing a 17-10 loss to No. 10 Vanderbilt on Saturday at FirstBank Stadium.

The Tigers outgained Vanderbilt 376-265 in total yardage and dominated possession but couldn’t overcome a costly late turnover and the loss of starting quarterback Beau Pribula, who exited in the third quarter with an ankle injury.

Backup Matt Zollers led Missouri to a game-tying touchdown early in the fourth quarter, connecting with tight end Jude James from six yards out to even the score at 10-10. But after a fumble by running back Jamal Roberts near midfield, Vanderbilt’s Diego Pavia capped a short drive with a 1-yard touchdown run with 1:52 remaining.

Zollers nearly rallied Mizzou again, completing a 36-yard pass to Coleman as time expired, but the Tigers were ruled short of the end zone. Coleman finished with 162 all-purpose yards, while running back Ahmad Hardy added 97 on the ground.

Defensively, Missouri limited Pavia to 149 total yards and held Vanderbilt to just 45 plays and 3-of-10 on third down. Linebacker Josiah Trotter led the Tigers with nine tackles.

Missouri enters its bye week before hosting No. 4 Texas A&M on Nov. 8 in Columbia.
