The Washington Commanders head to Kansas City to take on one of the NFL’s hottest teams, the Chiefs, in what promises to be a true test at Arrowhead Stadium on Monday night.
Originally expected to be a quarterback showdown between Patrick Mahomes and Jayden Daniels, the story has changed with Daniels sidelined by a hamstring injury. Marcus Mariota will get the start for Washington as the Commanders try to avoid falling to 3-5 on the season.
Kansas City (4-3) comes in red-hot, winning three of its last four games, including a dominant win over the Lions and a rare shutout of the Raiders. Mahomes has been unstoppable, throwing 1,800 yards and 14 touchdowns with just two interceptions so far this season. Key players returning from injury, including Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice, have boosted the Chiefs’ offense even more.
The Commanders’ defense has struggled, giving up 364 yards per game and allowing the NFL’s worst 7.8 yards per pass attempt. Explosive plays have been a major issue, with eight passes of 40+ yards already this season.
Tonight, all eyes will be on Mariota as he faces Mahomes and a Chiefs team firing on all cylinders. It’s a big night for Washington to see if they can slow down one of the league’s best and get back on track.
