The Baxter County Historical and Genealogical Society will hold its next monthly meeting on Tuesday at 6 in the Knox Room of the Donald W. Reynolds Library serving Baxter County in Mountain Home.

This month’s program will feature Jason Harmon, who will present “Buffalo City: A River Town Through Time.” Sonny Sharp with the Society says he doesn’t think they’ve had a more interesting program this year.

Harmon has been a life-long researcher and tells KTLO News more about his professional career history.

A small sign along westbound Highway 62/412 points the way to Buffalo City, a quiet, scenic spot on the White River where tourists come to fish, float, and retire. But as Harmon will explain, the community’s story reaches far deeper spanning nearly 200 years. He explains how this specific city actually became a landing point for travelers coming to this area of the Ozarks.

The presentation is sure to fascinate anyone interested in the history of the Twin Lakes area. The Society meets the fourth Tuesday of every month, is open to the public, and everyone is welcome to attend.
