Rural MH man arrested after shooting house, crashing car, nearly 11 pounds of meth found

A rural Mountain Home man has been arrested after, while he was high on drugs, he fired a shot inside his house, wrecked his car, stood in the middle of the highway and threw rocks at and tried to jump in front of passing vehicles. After deputies arrested 35-year-old Wesley Grant Bray, they returned to his residence and found nearly 11 pounds of methamphetamine he had hidden. Bray is facing a total of ten charges, seven of them felonies.According to two probable cause affidavits in the case, deputies were called to Bray’s residence on U.S. Highway 62/412 East about 5:30 Wednesday morning after Bray’s wife called 911. When deputies arrived, she reported Bray had been hallucinating and thought someone was trying to kill him. He had gotten her handgun out of a gun safe and fired a shot in the bedroom. The victim feared for her and her baby’s lives, so she left the house.

Bray then left and drove a short distance before crashing his car, causing personal damage a few blocks away. Bray fled the scene and it was reported by several people he was in the middle of Highway 62/412 throwing rocks at and then trying to jump in front of the passing vehicles. Bray hit at least one vehicle, causing damage. Two deputies arrived to find Bray lying on his back on the highway flailing around and took him into custody.

The victim reported Bray had gone to a local hotel to get high and returned during the early morning hours after texting saying the police were about to raid him. When Bray first got home, he grabbed some knives and carried them around because he was paranoid.

The gun was not located and Bray later admitted he threw it out along the highway. He also admitted to using methamphetamine during the night.

During a search of Bray’s vehicle, deputies found a bag of crystalline substance which tested positive for methamphetamine. The bag weighed 115.5 grams.

It was learned there was likely more methamphetamine at Bray’s property, so later Wednesday, a search warrant was executed by the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, Mountain Home Police and Arkansas State Police.

They searched an outbuilding where a bucket was found in the trunk of a car that contained nearly 10.8 pounds of methamphetamine. Also found were several large ziplock bags that were hidden on top a tire of the same car. The baggies were similar in appearance to the type of baggies commonly used to repackage large wholesale quantities of methamphetamine. The methamphetamine and paraphernalia were seized along with two vehicles and a small amount of cash.

The investigation revealed the methamphetamine law enforcement found was part of a 15 pound shipment. It’s believed Bray had already sold a portion of the drug.

Bray is facing a charge of trafficking a controlled substance, methamphetamine, which is a class Y felony, the most serious crime in Arkansas not punishable by the death penalty. Other felony charges include possession of methamphetamine with purpose to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of firearms by certain persons (meaning he is a convicted felon), two counts of aggravated assault on a family or household member and first degree endangering the welfare of a minor. Misdemeanor charges include interfering with emergency communications, first degree criminal mischief and leaving the scene of a property damage accident. He is also facing a penalty enhancement for being a habitual offender as he has two or more felony convictions. Bray is being held in the Baxter County Detention Center with bond set at $250,000.

PREVIOUS ARRESTS

Bray has three previous felony arrests dating back to 2008, all in Izard County. His previous charges include first degree false imprisonment, residential burglary, first degree terroristic threatening, aggravated assault, possession of methamphetamine with purpose to deliver, possession of a controlled IV substance and possession of a controlled VI substance.
