October ends cooler and wetter as fall settles in

October ended with much needed rain and a sudden change to cooler temperatures as fall settled in the Ozarks.

The month began with the continuation of a dry spell that began on September 26 and continued through October 19 with no rain recorded at KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot the official reporting station for Mountain Home to the National Weather Service (NWS). Showers began on the 19th with on and off rain through the end of the month with a total of 2.51 inches. Rainfall totals almost equaled 2024’s total for October where 2.48 inches was recorded. The average rainfall total for the month is 3.99 inches.

Warm temperatures through the first 24 days suddenly dipped into the 50s on the 25th and continued to stay below average with the a Frost Advisory being issued by the NWS on Halloween. A shift in the winds after the quiet summer marked the change of the seasons into fall. The average high for the month was 74 degrees and the average low was 52.
