
Candidate filing for the 2026 elections in Baxter County ended Wednesday at noon with races developing for County Judge, Sheriff, and multiple JP seats.
For County Judge incumbent Kevin Litty (R) will face Eric Payne (R) who will not seek reelection in his current position as Justice of the Peace for District 11.
With current Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery not seeking another term a three way race has developed with Brian Davis (R), Mark Hollingsworth (R) and Henry Campfield filing to run for the office.
In Justice of the Peace filings, District 1 incumbent Dennis M. Frank (R) filed unopposed. District 2 incumbent Mike McDonald (R) will face off against Teia Peters (R). Jay Sabella (R) filed to run against incumbent for District 3 Rick Steiner (R). Incumbent Dirk Waldrop (R) remains unopposed for District 4 as well as incumbent Maryanne Edge (R) for District 5. Lisa J. House (R) incumbent for District 6 is unopposed but a race has developed for District 7 as incumbent Bob Nault (R) will face Brian Ades (R) in the primaries. District 8 incumbent Republican Edward Griffin will run against Democrat candidate Micha Johnson in the general election in the only race from the opposing party. James Baker (R) has filed to run against incumbent Cameron Davis (R) for District 9 and incumbent Shannon Walker (R) is unopposed in District 10. Finally in District 11 Tom Canta (R) and Danny Woods (R) will face off as current seat holder Eric Payne seeks office as County Judge.
County Clerk positions remains unopposed with incumbent Canda J. Reese (R) for county and circuit clerk, incumbent Jenay Mize (R) for treasurer, incumbent Teresa Smith (R) for collector, incumbent Jayme Nicholson Johnson (R) for assessor, and Sara Fischer (R) seeking a first term for coroner.
In constable races Caleb Johnston has filed for constable 3, Bryce Henson for Constable 6, Chrisy Cook for Constable 7, Bobby Hicks for Constable 8 and Toney Brasuell for Constable 11.
In school board elections, Andrew Slater, Allen Franks, and Jimmy Morgan filed for the Cotter School Board; Tommy Knight, Barbara Horton, and Scott Booth filed for the Mountain Home School Board; and Darin Hughes and Steven Braun filed for the Norfork School Board.
The primary election in Arkansas will be March 3 of 2026 with the General Election scheduled for March 31 of 2026. The deadline to register to vote is Monday, February 2 of 2026.
