
It’s playoff time in Arkansas, and several area teams are set for tough first-round matchups as the road to War Memorial Stadium begins.
In Class 3A, undefeated Salem (10-0) opens postseason play at home, hosting Fouke (6-4). The Greyhounds enter as one of the top teams in the classification and will look to keep their perfect season alive. Meanwhile, Melbourne (6-4) faces a challenging trip to Newport (8-2), a perennial 3A contender.
In Class 5A, Harrison (5-5) travels to Valley View (9-1). Joe T. Robinson, one of the favorites in the class at 10-0, draws a home game against Camden Fairview.
The 6A bracket sees Mountain Home hosting Sheridan in its opening matchup, while Sylvan Hills, Greenwood, Shiloh Christian, and Benton all earned first-round byes.
In 7A, four of the state’s top programs, Bentonville, Bryant, Conway, and Rogers, also receive byes and will await winners from the opening round.
First-round matchups continue Friday night across the state as teams begin their push toward December championships.
