A very warm mid November has resulted in two high temperature records being broken in Mountain Home over the past four days.

Saturday’s high reached 84 degrees, surpassing the previous record of 83 set in 1953. Tuesday brought hot and windy conditions, breaking the 1943 record of 80 degrees with a new high of 83. These temperatures are nearly 30 degrees above normal for this time of year, when the average high is 55 and the average low is 35.

In addition to the unseasonable warmth, the area has seen a significant lack of rainfall. The last measurable rain fell on Oct. 29, when 0.94 inches was recorded at KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot in Mountain Home. According to the National Weather Service, most of the Twin Lakes Area is currently in moderate drought.

Beginning Wednesday night and continuing through Friday, multiple rounds of heavy rainfall are expected, with forecasting models calling for 1.5 to 2 inches across North Central Arkansas. Long-range forecasts indicate cooler temperatures next week, with Thanksgiving Day possibly bringing highs only in the mid 40s.
